Biography
Chief David J. Lucero is a 20-year-veteran law enforcement officer starting his career with the Lamar (Colorado) Police Department. Chief Lucero came to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office in 2004 and served as a:
  • Patrol Deputy
  • Child Crimes Detective
  • Major Crimes Detective
  • Sergeant
  • Internal Affairs Inspector

Chief Lucero was promoted to Jail Operations Captain by Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor in August of 2008. Chief Lucero served as Vice President and President of the Colorado Jail Association and as a Technical Resource Provider for the US Department of Justice, National Institute of Corrections. In August of 2012 Chief Lucero was transferred to the Patrol Operations Captain in the Law Enforcement Bureau.

In January 2015, Chief Lucero was promoted to the Bureau Chief of Law Enforcement. Chief Lucero’s command includes all patrol deputies, the:
  • A Community Organization for Victim Assistance (ACOVA)
  • Canine (K-9) Unit

  • D.A.R.E / S.R.O. Deputies
  • Investigations Division
  • Narcotics Unit
  • Sheriff’s Office at Colorado State University-Pueblo
  • SWAT Team
  • Traffic

Education & Training
Chief Lucero serves as a Special Deputy U.S. Marshal assigned to the U.S. Marshals Colorado Violent Offender Task Force. Chief Lucero is a graduate of Colorado State University-Pueblo, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Rocky Mountain Command College and the 271st session of the F.B.I. National Academy.
